Featured Ingredient: Cardamom oil, Elettaria cardamomum minuscula

Region: Guatemala, Cobán, Alta Verapaz district

People: Maya, Q'eqchi'

Grown by Guatemalan farmers in sustainable agroforestry systems regenerating degraded rainforest, the cardamom oil that ensouls Cloud Cardamom is the distillation of the relationship between plants, their caretakers and the Maya Biosphere in which they live and grow.

Cardamom was introduced to Guatemala in the early 1900’s by European plantation owners via violent land grabs and forced labor, perpetuating a cycle of exploitation that began with Spanish colonization. This cardamom oil is a disruption of that legacy, cultivated through alternative people and planet-centered practices, it is grown as a tertiary “cash crop” alongside native and food plants, which are distributed to farmers for free by non-government organizations.

This perfume is a tribute to the interspecies relationships that are integral to a green world. Sparkling cardamom, Queen of Spices, floats upon a throne of fluffed, blooming clouds. A breath from the rainforest spins them around you into a shroud, soft as a flower petal—a ghostly pelt glittering with golden amber.

Notes: cardamom, california lemon, citrus molecules, rainforest clouds, white flowers, ginger, cedarwood, sparkling amber, fluffy milky musk
